Asia Cup 2023: The proposed “Hybrid Model” by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to be approved by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Under the Hybrid Model, four out of thirteen matches will be played in Pakistan, while the matches involving India and the remaining teams will be held in Sri Lanka. There is a possibility that the Asia Cup will be organized in September.
The ongoing controversy surrounding the Asia Cup 2023 seems to be coming to an end. According to media reports, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is likely to approve the proposed “Hybrid Model” by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The official announcement regarding this can be made by the ACC under the leadership of Jay Shah on Tuesday, June 13. India had previously refused to tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup, which had raised concerns about the tournament’s organization.
Asia Cup 2023: India Will Play Its Matches In Sri Lanka
Once the “Hybrid Model” is officially approved, the pathway for the Pakistan cricket team to participate in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup scheduled to be held in India in October-November will also be cleared. Additionally, there should be no issue for Pakistan to play matches in Ahmedabad. Four out of thirteen matches will be played in Pakistan under the Hybrid Model, while the matches involving India and the remaining teams will be held in Sri Lanka. The Asia Cup is likely to be organized from 1st to 17th September.
These matches Will Be Hosted In Pakistan
According to a member of the ACC, Pankaj Khimji, who is the head of the Oman Cricket Board, the responsibility of resolving the issue was given to the ACC executive board members because most countries did not want the “Hybrid Model.” However, in the current situation, India’s absence in the four matches – Pakistan vs. Nepal, Bangladesh vs. Afghanistan, Afghanistan vs. Sri Lanka, and Sri Lanka vs. Bangladesh – to be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore seems likely.
When Geoff Allardice, the CEO of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and Chairman Greg Barclay met with PCB Chairman Najam Sethi, it was decided that Pakistan would not impose any conditions to participate in the World Cup. In the Asia Cup, the “Hybrid Model” seems to be the most practical option as it clears the way for India to participate in the ODI World Cup without any conditions. The schedule for the ODI World Cup is expected to be announced in the coming week.
