Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: The government is continuously working to make passenger services more convenient by adopting the latest technology, modernizing facilities, and improving basic infrastructure. As part of this process, work is underway to transform railway stations across the country.

What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” through video conferencing on Sunday. Under this scheme, 508 railway stations across the country will be redeveloped. Indian Railways is one of the busiest and largest railway networks in the world, connecting thousands of towns and cities and playing a crucial role in the mobility of millions across the country.

Stations Will Transform

The government is also taking steps to improve freight transportation services along with passenger services. Work is underway to modernize facilities and basic infrastructure to make passenger services more convenient. This is part of the government’s “New India” mission. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to redevelop 508 selected stations in the country.

The “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” is a new scheme launched by the Ministry of Railways on December 27, 2022. The plan envisions the long-term development of stations. It is based on master planning and implementation according to the needs and demands of stations from station to station.

Objective of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The objective of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is to enhance the minimum essential facilities and modern amenities. It also includes the construction of roof plazas and city centers at the stations. The scheme will focus on the introduction of new facilities as well as upgrading existing ones.

Scope of work under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

The ABSS includes the introduction of kiosks through schemes like entry and exit points, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lifts/escalators, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, and “One Station One Product” to promote local products. It also includes improvements in passenger information systems, executive lounges, space for business meetings, and greenery, among other facilities.

It is proposed to revamp 508 stations across the country under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Stations from 27 states and union territories are included in the scheme. Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will have 55 stations each, Bihar 49, Maharashtra 44, West Bengal 37, Madhya Pradesh 34, Assam 32, Odisha 25, and Punjab 22. Additionally, Gujarat and Telangana will have 21 stations each, Jharkhand 20, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu 18 each, Haryana 15, Karnataka 13, and several stations from other states will be part of the scheme.
