Alfa Romeo make F1 return after 30 years

Alfa Romeo are coming back to Formula One following a 30-year nonattendance as patrons of Sauber one year from now, the notorious Italian marque reported on Wednesday.

The Ferrari-controlled group will be known as Alfa Romeo Sauber. Ferrari executive Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the Milan-based maker’s organization Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said in an announcement that Alfa was “resolved to start composing an energizing new part in its novel, incredible brandishing history”.

‘Alfa Romeo has a long history of accomplishment in Grand Prix dashing, and we are exceptionally glad this universally prestigious organization has worked with us for its arrival to the apex of motorsport. ‘Working intimately with an auto maker is an awesome open door for the Sauber Group to additionally build up its innovation and designing activities.

We are sure that together we can bring the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team extraordinary achievement, and anticipate a long and fruitful association.’ Alfa Romeo dashed in Formula One from 1950 to 1988, both as a constructor and motor provider.

They won the drivers’ title in 1950 and 1951 with Nino Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio individually. Sauber battled in 2017, completing rearward in the constructors’ title with only five focuses, which were all scored by German driver Pascal Wehrlein.
