Sri Lanka’s star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga made history on Sunday. He has become the second bowler in the history of One-Day International cricket to achieve the feat of taking three consecutive five-wicket hauls. Hasaranga achieved this milestone in the ICC World Cup 2023 qualifier match against Ireland. Previously, Pakistan’s fast bowler Waqar Younis had achieved this feat 33 years ago. Sri Lanka secured their place in the Super Six stage of the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Tournament by defeating Ireland with a resounding victory of 133 runs on Sunday.

During the ICC World Cup Qualifier Tournament, Sri Lanka’s spinner Wanindu Hasaranga claimed three consecutive five-wicket hauls. He dismissed Ireland for 79 runs after scoring 79 runs himself. Prior to this, Hasaranga had taken 6 wickets for 24 runs against the UAE and 5 wickets for 13 runs against Oman. Sri Lanka has dominated the qualifiers by winning all three of their group matches. Previously, Waqar Younis had taken five-wicket hauls against New Zealand and West Indies. He claimed 5 wickets for 11 runs against New Zealand in 1990 and then took 5 wickets for 16 runs. He also took 5 wickets for 52 runs against West Indies.

Wanindu Hasaranga Secured A Big Win Against Ireland

Sri Lanka secured a big win of 133 runs against Ireland in the ICC World Cup Qualifier on Sunday, qualifying for the Super Six stage. With this result, Scotland and Oman have also secured their place in the Super Sixes. Dimuth Karunaratne played a remarkable innings of 103 runs, helping Sri Lanka reach a total of 325 runs after winning the toss. Karunaratne played innings of 52 and 61 runs against the United Arab Emirates and Oman respectively. Then, Wanindu Hasaranga’s exceptional bowling performance (5 wickets for 79 runs) restricted the Ireland team to 192 runs. Hasaranga claimed his third five-wicket haul in the match.
